I ain’t knockin’ this. Why some people place a piece of paper (upon which they intend to scribble something) on top of important publications (and especially the covers of fine books and magazines) in order to write on said piece of paper is beyond me. One can then all too easily see, on the covers of fine books and magazines, the indentations left by the scribblings. These people who mar such holy texts (for example, The New Yorker) are certainly not “gentlemen.” (And here I adjust my monocle.) I, as a gentleman myself, think such criminals should be hanged in the public square.
